Alejandro Valverde will be part of the Movistar Gravel Squad

Despite that he announced his retirement from professional road cycling last year, Alejandro Valverde will continue to be linked to competition through the structure that has accompanied him over the last two decades. The Murcian cyclist will join the new Movistar Gravel Squad, a division that is making its debut with Iván García Cortina, two members of the eSports group such as Ana Dillana and Hayley Simmonds and Valverde.

The objective of this off-road project is to participate in different races of a discipline that is on the rise and that already last year held its first World Championship in Veneto (Italy) under the protection of the UCI and victory in the men’s category for the Belgian Gianni Vermeersch.

Both Valverde and the team will debut next Sunday, April 23 in La Indomable, a competition that takes place in the province of Almería where he will share squad with the two riders of the virtual cycling group supported by Telefónica.

Gobik, the brand that has dressed the Movistar Team since this season, has designed a special kit for the gravel team following the line used on the road but incorporating details and variations in clear reference to the adventurous spirit of this discipline.
