Valverde wins O Gran Camiño

Alejandro Valverde completed his great week in Galicia this Sunday by conquering the general classification of O Gran Camiño, a stage race with which the community recovered a professional race. The Movistar Team rider showed commendable regularity from the first day in Vigo, not dropping from third place in any of the four stages held.

Bala needed to cut 10 seconds from the yellow of Michael Woods in the sinuous individual time trial of 15 kilometers in Sarria, a demanding test in which he ended up leading the Canadian by 17 seconds, enough to achieve the victory in the general classification and lead a very important podium together with Woods himself and Mark Padun, winner of this last day.

This is Alejandro’s third victory this season, the 133rd of his career and the twenty-fifth overall in a stage race within his brilliant and numerous track record.

Statements: “I am happy, above all, for having managed to take the general. The team’s work has been fantastic during the four days and to be able to win the first edition of this new race, so well organized, is something very nice. Yesterday we achieved the stage, I have always been ahead the four days -third in Vigo, second on Friday, third also today together with the general- and I leave this race with great enthusiasm. Before coming, I had already spoken with Ezequiel Mosquera, the organizer, and he had conveyed to me his desire for everything to go well. It was a very nice race, with a large crowd, which is the most important thing, and I hope it lasts for many years”.
