The show starts. Alejandro Valverde’s last season as a professional cyclist kicks off this week with the traditional Challenge de Mallorca, that after the cancellation of the races in Australia or Argentina mean the start of the season for many of the World Teams.

The Murcian cyclist’s first victory on the island dates back to 2004, when he won the Sóller Trophy, where he repeated success the following season in addition to winning the Manacor Trophy. His last two triumphs in Mallorca came in the Serra de Tramuntana Trophy in 2013 and 2015.

As a novelty, the Challenge recovers its fifth trophy this season, thus covering from this Wednesday the 26th to the next day the 30th a calendar that includes the Calvià Trophy, the Port d’Alcudia Trophy, the Serra de Tramuntana Trophy, the Port d’Andratx Trophy and the Playa de Palma Trophy, the only one of the five that seems destined for a massive arrival.

Valverde will lead a strong Movistar Team together with Enric Mas, Matteo Jorgenson, Einer Rubio, Ivan García Cortina, Gregor Muhlberger, Albert Torres, Lluís Mas, Oier Lazkano, Will Barta, Iván Sosa, Juri Hollmann and Gonzalo Serrano. Only seven of them will participate in each of the trophies.
