There is no summer without le Tour
The great cycling event of the season, the most followed internationally and the one that arouses the most interest among press and fans, will start this Saturday in Nice, neither the dates nor the place planned just a few months ago.
The global crisis due to COVID 19 has shaken the normality of a peloton that is preparing to play its first Tour de France on the usual dates of other competitions such as the Vuelta or even the World Championships, one of the few races that remains immovable with respect to the calendar presented at the end of 2019.
But if cycling returns, the Tour could not be missed, the race where Alejandro Valverde has savored his honey with four stage victories, a podium in the general classification or the honor of wearing his legendary yellow jersey. On the other hand, he has also known its most painful face with the hard fall of Dusseldorf, although he returned even stronger, winning the 2018 World Championship only a year later.
For this atypical 2020, Valverde travels to Nice as part of a Movistar Team with Enric Mas, Marc Soler, Dario Cataldo, Nelson Oliveira, Imanol Erviti, Carlos Verona and José Joaquín Rojas. This is a well-balanced block for an edition that starts strong on the Côte d’Azur, with several hard days that will force the main contenders to be attentive from the start.
