13th Vuelta a España for Valverde
The world champion faces from this Saturday an always special race in his calendar: the Tour of Spain. Throughout his extensive career as a professional, Valverde has accumulated extraordinary numbers in his various participations in the great Spanish round.
To his triumph in the 2009 edition, Alejandro has added another five podiums (two seconds and three third), twelve stage wins (the last two, last season) and twenty-six days wearing the race leader’s jersey. In addition, he also brings together four victories in the classification of the points and another three in the combined classification.
This numbers have already become Alejandro Valverde in history of this race. He will try to increase it in the 2019 edition, which starts very close to his home, in Torrevieja, with a schedule that would conclude in Madrid on September 15. In the middle, nine mountain stages, six with a hill finish and Pau’s individual time trial.
Valverde integrates the powerful block of a Movistar Team, with the winner of this race, Nairo Quintana or the winner of the last Giro, Richard Carapaz. Marc Soler, Imanol Erviti, Jorge Arcas, Antonio Pedrero and Nelson Oliveira complete the eight of the Navarre formation.
