Liege-Bastogne-Liege

Liege-Bastogne-Liege

Alejandro Valverde sets course this Sunday to Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the oldest classic in the calendar. Just turned 39, the world champion faces for the fourteenth time one of the greatest races of the year, considered one of the five Monuments, where he has achieved four wins (2006, 2008, 2015 and 2017) and continues to be the only Spanish in achieving victory.

This is gonna be a very different edition to previous years, thanks to a route that presents important novelties and that conclude again in the center of the Walloon city. This change gives more prominence to the Roche-aux-Faucons, whose top is now only 15 km from the finish line, although it maintains many of its mythical steps such as la Redoute. In total, 256 kilometers for one of the longest races of the season.

The Doyenne will be the last appointment for Valverde before participating in the Tour of Italy starting next May 11. This Wednesday, the Murcian cyclist concluded in the 11th position the Fleche Wallonne, recovering sensations in a very intense and selective race, with triumph for the second consecutive year for the Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe.
