The rainbow jersey debuts in Mallorca

More than a decade and a half after his professional debut in the year 2002, Alejandro Valverde is prepared to start a new cycling season. It is a special year, because the Movistar Team rider will wear the rainbow jersey, a garment that holds a special meaning, combining history, tradition and recognition.

The premiere will arrive in the Challenge of Mallorca, in the Ses Salines – Puig de Sant Salvador Trophy, where the Murcian will have the opportunity to fight for the first victory of the season in a complicated final, in a climb of about 5 km with average ramps of 7.3%. Valverde will repeat on Friday in the Andratx-Lloseta Trophy (crowning the Puig Major 35 km from the finish) and on Saturday in the winding Serra de Tramuntana Trophy.

Seven riders from Movistar Team will join him in his debut 2019: Mikel Landa, Antonio Pedrero, Daniele Bennati, Imanol Erviti, José Joaquín Rojas and the new signings Lluís Mas and Carlos Verona.
