Third position in a great stage
Alejandro Valverde has met the love and support of his countrymen in the Region de Murcia, the beginning of the sixth stage of the Tour of Spain. It has been one of the most spectacular days of the varied and complete first week of this race. 25 kilometers in the outskirts of Pozo Alcón with a 3rd category climb, several steep slopes and a narrow but dangerous, descent, where the favorites had to respond themselves to the movements at the head of the race.
The French Tony Gallopin (Ag2r-La Mondiale) got the victory thanks to a solo attack in the final kilometers. Valverde, on the other hand, finished third, only behind Peter Sagan, in a small group of just twenty men. This result places Alejandro in the second place in the general classification, behind Rudy Molard. In addition, it allows him to lead both the combinada and the classification by points.
Statements: The best thing of the day is not to have had mishaps, since it has been a very complicated stage. I took 2” in a sprint and another 4″ in the finish line, so it was a good day. It has been a very hard final. We had seen the roads but it ended up being harder than I thought. Days go by and everything is taking its toll, at the end of La Vuelta all efforts are important. I feel very loved by the fans, before and now, very happy for the love that I find in each departure or arrival.
