Exhibition at Indurain’s home
Alejandro Valverde achieved this Saturday his ninth win of the season at the Grand Prix Miguel Indurain, the first race of the great week of professional cycling in the Basque Country and Navarre. Bala took advantage of the great work of all his teammates in a renewed circuit with start and finish in Estella. Amador, Pedrero, Betancur, Castrillo, Anacona and Soler controlled the dangerous movements of the day, allowing Valverde to attack in the last climb to Eraul (2nd).
Only Carlos Verona resisted his movement in the first moment, although the Mitchelton Scott rider lost his wheel before the decisive ascent to the Muru. Thus, the Murcian achieved his second success in this race, an edition that has paid tribute to José Miguel Echávarri, precursor of the current structure of Movistar Team and a person highly appreciated by Alejandro Valverde.
Statements: “It was a fast and windy race, but well controlled by the team. Thanks to the work of all of us I have been able to win. I am very happy to win for the tribute that has been made to José Miguel Echavarri. It is a very nice race and this time I wanted to be here for this reason. Mitchelton has made it very complicated for us, Katusha too. I have to congratulate Verona. Every time I go out to compete I am surprised by my fitness, so I want to thank all the medical group that has worked with me, my family and all the people who have supported me.”
