Second victory in the Volta a Catalunya
For the second year in a row, Alejandro Valverde won the stage in La Molina ski resort, finish of the fourth stage of the Volta a Catalunya. To get it, Valverde had to overcome the young Colombian Egan Bernal (Team Sky), the only one to resist the Murcian cyclist in the final kilometers. The Spanish was very active throughout the day. He attacked in the descent of the Creueta, despite of the low temperatures and the intense cold that accompanied the riders from the start.
Back again in the bunch, Valverde controlled the final climb to La Molina with his teammates of Movistar Team, with a very active Marc Soler and a generous Nairo Quintana. Thanks to this triumph, Bala also recovers the leader’s jersey of the Volta, with three complicated stages still ahead.
Statements: It has been a very hard and cold stage. The team has been perfect throughout the day, from the first to the last one. They always controlled the race. In the final part, in the climb to La Molina, everything has been easier thanks to Marc and Nairo and in the end I was able to win. I knew I was faster but Egan is a great rider, as he is demonstrating, with a great future.
