First tour of the season
Once tested his good condition in his return to the competition in three of the four trophies of the Challenge de Mallorca, Alejandro Valverde starts this Wednesday his first tour of the season in Valencia. This is a balanced race, with two flat stages, one with a few climbs, another one finishing on a mountaintop and a team time trial. Valverde can continue improving his pace in these early stages of the year, where he has already achieved a podium in the Serra de Tramuntana Trophy.
The Friday’s TT and the Saturday’s stage, with start in Orihuela (very close to Alejandro’s home) and arrival in the Alto de las Canteras, seem the two most decisive days in the resolution of a general that the last year won his teammate Nairo Quintana. Andrei Amador, Jorge Arcas, Hector Carretero, Nuno Bico, Jose Joaquin Rojas and Jaime Roson are joining Valverde in this race.
It is the return of Valverde to this race eleven years after scoring his second triumph in the general (2007 and 2004). It is worth remembering that the Vuelta a la Comunidad Valenciana was held again in 2016 after eight years of absence.
