Silver medal in the National Championship

Alejandro Valverde has once again become a key part of Movistar Team’s triumph in the road race of the Spanish Cycling Championships, disputed throughout this weekend in the town of Soria. The Murcian rider has played a decisive role in the outcome of a race well controlled by the Spanish team.

After the first selection, Alejandro attacked again on the last lap with his teammate Jesús Herrada, Lluis Mas (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA), Jesús Ezquerra (Sporting-Tavira) and Ion Izagirre (Bahrain-Merida). In the final climb, already in the streets of Soria, he accelerated waiting for the final attack of Jesus Herrada, who left alone to get his second title of national champion. Valverde sprinted with Izagirre to achieve the silver medal.

Quotes: “It’s been a perfect day for the whole team. We have controlled the race and we have been looking for where the wind hit strong to accelerate at that point. We have done it once and we have cut the bunch and in the last lap I have attacked again to leave only five riders. We knew that Jesús was very good and he is very fast, so I have set the pace from the beginning of the climb until Jesús has jumped. He has won but I am just as happy as if I had won”.
