100 times Valverde

Alejandro Valverde has reached this Sunday his 100th victory as a professional cyclist. A number which only have reached the best ones and that confirms his excellent career. The rider from Las Lumbreras (Murcia) brings together top-level victories such as a Tour of Spain, three editions of Liege-Bastogne-Liège, four of the Fleche Wallonne, ??two of Clásica de San Sebastián and Dauphiné and a GC of Volta Catalunya. Furthermore, we have to add his podiums in Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a España, his six medals in World Championships or many stages in the best races of the international calendar.

The third digit arrived on Sunday in Coín (Malaga) with his fifth overall in Vuelta a Andalucía, a race that Alejandro has won in five of the last six editions and that this time gathered some important riders. After five very tough stages, Valverde has surpassed Alberto Contador (Trek) in 1 second and Thibaut Pinot (FDJ) in 6 seconds. Once he won his 100th victory, Valverde is going to stay a few days at home before starting new challenges.

Quotes: “I’m super happy. It was quite a fought race and it made it even more sweet to win. The team was superb, all of them – as with every victory I’ve achieved, I can’t thank them enough for their support. It wasn’t an easy day by any means: rain, cold temperatures, gusty winds… We all really suffered. At the end, that struggling made difficult to see any attacks, and so we secured this fifth victory in the race, which took so much to obtain. It obviously makes me happy to be celebrating 100 victories as a professional. It’s the sign of a fantastic career, one where above all I’ve enjoyed a lot riding my bike – and I hope I can improve those numbers in the future. There won’t be much time for celebrations, as Paris-Nice starts in two weeks’ time and it will be a big goal for us. Let’s hope the season continues this way”.
