Valverde is going to Rio 2016

For the fourth time in his career, Alejandro Valverde is going to represent Spain in the Olympic Games. The Spaniard rider has received the official announcement this Monday from the national coach Javier Minguez, who also counts for this appointment with Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) and three Movistar Team riders: Ion Izaguirre, Jonathan Castroviejo and Imanol Erviti.

Rio de Janeiro will be the fourth Olympic race for Valverde, who was already in Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012. Both he and Joaquim Rodriguez will lead the Spanish team in a very tough circuit, with three ascents to a first class port with 8.5 km and an average gradient of 5.7%.

Quotes: “I’m happy to go and happy for the great team we have. Purito and I have to be in the final part and as well as a great team that will be on our side. I think it was a wise decision”.
