Triple victory in Castilla y León

Two stages and general

Triple victory for Alejandro Valverde in the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon, the last tour before his expected debut at the Giro d’Italia. After the victory of his teammate Carlos Betancur on the first day of the race, Valverde attacked in the Alto de Fermoselle, port located a few kilometers away from the end line of the second stage.

Valverde dropped all his rivals on the climb, the last one was Carlos Barbero, to win with a comfortable lead over his rivals. Despite his triumph, Valverde insisted that the goal was to keep the leader’s jersey with Carlos Betancur, who had shown his good form.

However, the Alto de la Plataforma would change the race. Betancur dropped, so Valverde decided to take command of his team, attacked in the final meters and ensured the victory for his team in the round.

“I’m leaving Castilla y León very happy. The balance is excellent -victories for Betancur and for me, the general- and this is the best way to return to competition and make way to the Giro, which I wait with great enthusiasm. We must thank the whole team, who has worked great all weekend and even better today, from the beginning of the race “.
