Alejandro the third at the Planche des Belles Filles

Alejandro third at the Planche des Belles Filles

He is now third overall 2’47” behind Nibali

Alejandro finished the tenth stage of the Tour in third position. The race took place Mulhouse and La Planche des Belles Filles on the distance of 161,5 km. While Alberto Contador abandoned the race,  Vicenzo Nibali won the stage in solitary and took the yellow jersey over from Tony Gallopin’s shoulders.
Today, the riders had to climb 7 really difficult hills: the Col du Firstplan (2nd); the Petit Ballon (1st); the Col du Platzerwasel (1st); the Col d’Oderen (2nd); the Col des Croix (3rd); the Col des Chevrères (1st) and the Planche des Belles Filles (1st) where the stage finished.

Tomorrow: first of the two rest days

Alejandro’s quotes about Contador’s abandon and the race:

“I was noticed in the feed zone he had abandoned the race and I want to send him my support from here. I saw him crashing right in front of me; I think he lost contact with the handlebars due to a pothole, we were riding so fast and everything happened in a second. For the rest, I’m happy – everything went fine considering the awful day we went through, with that rain and the hard climbs. Everything is going alright up to this point, I feel strong. Nibali showed to really be on top of his game, a bit above us, but the race is long and we’ll see how we tackle it.”
