Alejandro Valverde returns to the classic that he has conquered the most times. Up to five editions of Fleche Wallonne bear the name of the cyclist from the Movistar team, all were achieved by defending the different names of the Abarca Sports team. Valverde made its debut in 2006 and then dominated the 2014/2017 cycle with an iron fist. No one has triumphed so many times at Huy.
Absent last year due to the changes in the calendar that the pandemic forced, the Murcian will again enjoy a race generally similar in his development but vibrant in his final kilometers. The three passes through Huy will mark a route where the double chained between Ereffe and Chemins de Gueuses also stands out.
After finishing fifth Amstel Gold Race, Valverde will start on Wednesday leading a reinforced Movistar by Enric Mas and Matteo Jorgenson. Carlos Verona, Gonzalo Serrano, Iván García Cortina and Jorge Arcas repeat.
