His favorite Monument

The Ardennes conclude as usual in the oldest classic on the calendar, the well-known Doyenne. This is a special race for Alejandro Valverde, the first and only Spanish cyclist who has achieved the victory, raising his arms up to four times. Just one short of Eddy Merckx.

Because Liege-Bastogne-Lieja is not just another name for the cyclist of the Movistar Team. Here he premiered his record in 2006, in his second participation, to later add the editions of 2008, 2015 and 2017. More than a decade and a half fighting against different generations of cyclists, resisting time and changes in the route .

LBL is not the same as fifteen years ago. The essence of its climbs and its long mileage are maintained, but changes have been made, both in its development and in its outcome. Anyway, its final 100 kilometers, concentrating nine climbs – highlighting La Redoute or the definitive Roche-aux-Façons – will once again decide a race with a flat finish in Ans, where a few months ago Primoz Roglic surpassed Julian Alaphilippe while the Frenchman celebrated.

Movistar Team will start with a block dedicated to the options of Valverde, who has added a fifth and a third in the previous tests. Enric Mas, Carlos Verona, Matteo Jorgenson, Jorge Arcas, Gonzalo Serrano and Lluís Mas will accompany the Murcian in his fifteenth Liege.
