In the pre list for Qatar 2016

Alejandro Valverde is part of the selection provided by Javier Minguez for the World Cycling Championships in Qatar. The national coach has compiled a list of fourteen names that includes the following riders: Jorge Arcas, Jonathan Castroviejo, Imanol Erviti, Gorka Izaguirre, Juanjo Lobato, Alejandro Valverde and Fran Ventoso (Movistar Team), Carlos Barbero, Diego Rubio, Eduard Prades and Hector Sáez (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA), David de la Cruz (Etixx), Omar Fraile (Dimension Data) and Luis Ángel Maté (Cofidis). Mínguez is selecting only nine to represent Spain in the road race next october 16th.

This is a totally different race compared to past seasons, with a flat course in which sprinters are the main favorites in the fight for medals. Only the wind, so typical of the races that take place in this country, could change a script that seems aimed at sprinters.

If Valverde is finally selected, it would be the twelfth World Championship as a professional for Alejandro, who already has two silvers (Hamilton 2003 and Madrid 2005) and four bronzes (Salzburg 2006, Valkenburg 2012, Florence 2013 and Ponferrada 2014). In addition, he has not lowered the Top 10 in the last five editions of this race.
