New leader in Camperona
Neither the days nor the kilometers can defeat Alejandro Valverde, who for the first time in his career completes the three Grand Tours in the same season. The explosive arrival at Camperona showed again his high level, finishing in the same time as Chris Froome and a few seconds behind Alberto Contador. Among the favorites, only his partner Nairo Quintana gained advantage over the others, becoming the new leader of a general in which Valverde remains second.
Tomorrow the riders will be still in the mountains, with a 164km stage between Cistierna and Alto del Naranco, where riders will face four ports before the decisive ascent to the final climb.
Quotes: “We are on the right track. Nairo dressed in red and me dressed in white and second in the overall. At the moment, the things are going well. This is my big third Grand Tour, every day I’m competing, I’m super happy. I tried to go ahead to avoid problems and falls. Froome attacked and then Nairo went alone. We have never said that Contador was not alive. He is one of the best riders in the world for Grand Tours and he never gives up. Froome has done what he had to do. Nairo has been better and that’s it. As long as I have my strength, I’m going to keep my position”.
